| TERM LIFE INSURANCE FOR SMOKERS |
Smoker term life insurance rates will always be higher than term life insurance rates for non-smokers. It's often hard for smokers to get great life insurance because of the inherent risk of smoking. But there are options. Even if you smoke cigarettes, cigars, pipe, or chew tobacco, you could still be eligible for great rates for life insurance for smokers. In many cases, life insurance for smokers can costs up to twice as much as the same policy for a nonsmoker. Insurance companies classify smokers differently based on their tobacco consumption. Some companies differentiate between moderate and heavy usage, and charge moderate users less. Other companies use the classification of "standard" or "preferred" tobacco users, where smokers will generally fall into the preferred category if they smoke but are otherwise healthy with regard to their weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol.
It's even possible to get non-smoker rates if you are a social cigarette smoker, pipe smoker, cigar smoker or if you chew tobacco. Smoker life insurance premiums are often more than three times as much as non-smoker premiums. This is because smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancers, which kill more people than breast, prostate and colon cancers combined. In fact, with some companies you may even qualify for non-smoker rates. |
